About Our Great Poet Kabir Das
Kabir Das was a great
Indian poet of 15th century. He was a mystic poet and also a saint.
Whose composition was very interesting, whose composition influenced “Bhakti
movement” . His verses are also found in Sikhism’s scripture Guru Granth
Sahib. He spent his early life in a Muslim family, later he was strongly
influenced by a teacher ‘Ramanand’.
The great poet gives message that
The God is with only the person who is going on the right path with the
consideration that all the creatures living on the earth is as important as
himself. To know or meet the God every person should meditate with the mantra ‘Rama,
Rama’. The messages of Kabir still continues as a religious community in
the form of ‘Kbir Path’ (Path of Kabir). The member of this community is
known as ‘kabir Panthis’.

Early
life and background
The birth of Kabir is
still a mysterious or unclear. Some historians says that he lived between 1398
and 1448. While other historian says that he lived between 1440 and 1518.
Many legends who existed that time
explained about his birth , family and early life. According to them, Kabir was
born to a Brahmin unwed mother in
Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh). And also said that his birth was by a
seedless conception and delivered through the palm of her hand. Who abandoned
him in a basket floating in a pond. And for a few times the basket was
continue floating and then reached to the bank. And then the baby (Kabir)
was picked up and then brought up by a Muslim family. But the modern
scholars have abandoned to accept this cause of lack of historical
evidence. So, modern scholars say that Kabir is widely accepted to have
been born and brought up in the Muslim Weavers family.
Some of the scholars says that
The parent of Kabir may have been converted to Islam and Kabir would
have unaware of Islamic traditions. And, he would have been following the
Nath (Shiva Yogi school of Hinduism.
Poetry
Kabir’s poems were in Hindi, most
of them was borrowing from various dialects including Avadhi Braj. Kabir’s
poetry is involving in various aspects of life and call for a loving devotion
for God. Kabir writes his compositions with simple Hindi works. Most of his
compositions are related to devotion, mysticism and discipline of life.
Literary works with compositions
attributed to Kabir include Kabir Baijak, Kabir Parachai, Sakhi Granth, Adi
Granth (Kikh), and Kabir Granthawali (Rajasthan).
The poems of Kabir were composed
in the 15th century and transmitted through 17th
century.
Authenticity
Some of Kabir’s compositions were
translated in English. One hundred Poems of Kabir were translated into English
by Rabibdranath Tagore and first published in 1915. Six of this hundred poems
are authentic such considerations is some of the Scholars.
Philsophy
Some
of commentators says that Kabir’s philosophy
as a syncretic synthesis of Hinduism and Islam. But scholars clearly state that
the conception is false and a misunderstanding of Kabir. Kabir’s composition emphasize
on the unity of Hidu-Muslim
